I've been intrigued by solar electricity for a long time. I installed a system on the house and have always been amazed at how well it works. I had read a lot on AirForums about solar for rv's, and it quickly went on my list of future trailer improvements. We camped a few times with no hook-ups and relied on the original battery for our 12-volt electrical needs... It quickly became apparent that we were great candidates for a solar system! The wonderful people at AM Solar in Eugene, Oregon were super helpful and patient, answering all of my questions. So, we hitched up and drove ourselves on up there for an installation. What a nice job they did, so nice and neat, and the thing works like a charm. The original 12-volt battery got replaced with a couple of Lifeline agm 6-volt batteries. I don't really understand the whole thing about 2 6-volt batteries vs. one 12-volt battery, but it's better for some reason. Call AM Solar and they'll explain it to you. All I know is that whenever we camp now without hook-ups, we never run out of electricity! We leave the satellite radio on all the time, at least a light or two, maybe a movie at night... It's really amazing how well it works! Granted, we're usually in sunny southern California with it's abundance of sunshine. All the more reason to take advantage of the sun! Thank you, AM Solar, for one of the most useful mods we've done to the trailer!
